Our Services

Welcome to the Delmar Animal Hospital. Our goal is to treat each pet and their owner as we would want to be treated.  We are here to provide personalized and preventative medical, surgical and dental care for your dog and cat. Our aim is to be there to guide and advise you through all aspects of your pet's life: growth, behavior, nutrition, exercise, health maintenance, acute or chronic disease, aging and death.

The backbone of well-care is the physical exam.  Annual physical exams are done in conjunction with any routine preventive care like vaccinations or blood work.

The physical exam involves examination of the eyes and third eyelids, ear canals and pinnae (flap), face, nose, lips, gums, teeth, roof of mouth, tongue, back of throat, lymph nodes, thyroid glands, gait, weight, tail, anus and privatec, abdomen, ausculation (listening) to the heart and lungs, pulse, skin and haircoat.  Each practitioner may examine your pet in their unique way.

More detailed, focused exams may be done for specific complaints involving ocular, otic, dermatological or orthopedic symptoms.

The physical exam may be supplemented by additional diagnostics for sick patients, patients with specific risk factors/problems, or as part of aging well care.

In addition to offering lifelong preventive health care, we have a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your sick pet. If your pet's problem requires knowledge or diagnostics beyond our expertise, we routinely arrange for consultation or referral to appropriate specialists.

We perform a wide range of surgeries including orthopedic surgery (repair of bones and ligaments) and soft tissue surgery (spays, neuters, intestinal surgery, cesarean sections, lump removal).  Electrocautery or cryosurgical units are utilized when appropriate.  We utilize the safest modern anesthetic agents with multiparameter monitoring by the surgical team (veterinarian, licensed technician, kennel care supervisor).  Appropriate pain medication and warming beds are used to keep our surgical patients as stable and comfortable as possible.

We perform thorough dental cleaning and polishing with a Dentalaire ultrasonic scaler and polisher. We perform limited dental extractions and oral surgery with or without high speed drills.  We suggest you visit Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) for diets and treats that promote
stronger teeth and better breath.

Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for cytology, serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing with often same-day results.  Complete blood counts, feline leukemia testing, Lyme testing, heartworm testing, chemistry with electrolytes, urinalysis and zinc sulfate fecal floatation are all routinely run.  We utilize multiple commercial and academic veterinary reference laboratories for specialized diagnostic testing.

Additional on-site diagnostic aids include an EKG machine, x-ray machine with automatic film processor, ultrasound machine and Doppler blood pressure monitoring.

Our pharmacy includes a complete inventory of medications, nuetricuticals, shampoos, and paracitides including heartworm, flea and tick products.  We carry both Purina and Hills Science Diet prescription diets.

Emergency care is available during normally staffed operating hours  These prioritized events may incur additional fees.  The CDAEC serves our clients when our staff is not available.

In-hospital nursing care includes placement and monitoring of intravenous lines, flow pumps, syringe pumps, bed warmers, supplemental oxygen and bedside heart monitoring if needed.  Temporary and esophogeal feeding tube care is available for nutritional support or therapy.  Inhaled medications, nebulization and oxygen therapy is available for respiratory care.  Transfusion care is available.  Medical care boarding and medically necessary grooming and bathing are available to our patients.

We have our own crematory on the premises. Your pet's cremation is handled in a caring and professional manner by Dr. Stuart Lyman. We offer a private cremation which allows us to return your pet's remains to you for subsequent burial or scattering.
